Tactical guide

How to optimize your website for AI search

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews now answer your buyers' questions directly. The businesses they cite are the ones that publish clear, structured, maintained answers. Here's the six-step roadmap — and what Dae automates in each step.

The six steps
01

Inventory the questions your buyers actually ask

AI search engines answer questions. Your site needs to, too — explicitly, one question per page. Start by collecting real questions before you write anything.

  • Export sales emails, support tickets and chat logs; pull the recurring questions.
  • Mine Google's "People Also Ask" and autocomplete for your category.
  • Group questions by buying stage: research, comparison, pricing, implementation.
  • Prioritize questions where your product or service is the answer.
What Dae automates here

Dae scans your site, maps it into topic folders and drafts the question plan for you — typically 30–90 buyer questions in the first pass.

02

Publish one page per question

AI crawlers extract answers from single-purpose pages, not from long blog posts that bury the answer. Each question gets its own URL with the question as the H1.

  • Lead with a direct, quotable answer in the first 2–3 sentences.
  • Use short paragraphs, bullet lists and comparison tables — formats AI models cite cleanly.
  • Answer specifically: numbers, prices, ranges, timelines. Vague answers don't get cited.
  • Add a unique angle AI can't get elsewhere: your data, your process, your pricing.
What Dae automates here

Dae generates each answer in a citation-ready format — lead answer, context, bulleted facts, trade-offs — written from your own material, not generic AI text.

03

Add structured data AI crawlers rely on

Schema.org markup tells AI systems exactly what a page is: a question, an answer, an author, a date. Pages with clean structured data are easier to parse and safer to cite.

  • Mark up Q&A pages with QAPage or FAQPage schema.
  • Include author, datePublished and dateModified — AI models weight freshness.
  • Keep the visible answer and the JSON-LD answer identical.
  • Validate with Google's Rich Results Test after each template change.
What Dae automates here

Every Dae answer page ships with Article + QAPage JSON-LD, author and date markup, and canonical URLs — automatically.

04

Make your site machine-readable

AI crawlers are fast and literal. Help them: a sitemap they can trust, an llms.txt file that explains your site, and plain-HTML answers that don't require JavaScript to read.

  • Keep sitemap.xml complete and current — include lastmod dates.
  • Publish /llms.txt: a Markdown index of your key pages for LLM crawlers.
  • Serve full answer text in the initial HTML (server-rendered or static).
  • Don't block AI crawlers in robots.txt unless you mean it — check GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot.
What Dae automates here

Dae auto-generates your hub sitemap, llms.txt and a Markdown full-text index, and every answer page is server-rendered with the full text in the initial HTML.

05

Keep answers fresh and dated

AI models prefer recent, maintained sources. A page that says 2024 and contradicts your current pricing gets skipped — or worse, quoted against you.

  • Show a visible "Last updated" date on every answer.
  • Re-review pricing, product and policy answers quarterly.
  • Update the page when the real answer changes — don't just add a correction.
  • Retire answers that no longer reflect what you sell.
What Dae automates here

Dae flags stale answers and queues them for refresh; new visitor questions become new answers on a daily cadence you set.

06

Measure what AI sends you

AI search is a channel. Track it like one: which answers get impressions, which questions visitors ask, where AI assistants already cite you.

  • Watch Search Console for question-style queries ("how much does…", "is X worth it").
  • Log the questions people type into your own site — that's your content backlog.
  • Test your category's top questions in ChatGPT and Perplexity monthly; note who gets cited.
  • Double down on topics where you're already being quoted.
What Dae automates here

Dae's workspace analytics show question volume, answer views and moderation status per hub, so you see what your market asks before your competitors do.

The checklist

AI-search readiness, in one list

One page per buyer question, question as the H1
Direct answer in the first 2–3 sentences
Numbers and specifics, not marketing adjectives
QAPage / Article JSON-LD with author and dates
sitemap.xml with lastmod; llms.txt at the root
Server-rendered answer text (no JS required to read it)
Visible "last updated" date on every answer
Monthly check of who AI assistants cite for your category

Do it by hand, or let Dae run it for you

Everything above — question inventory, answer pages, structured data, sitemaps, llms.txt, daily freshness — is what Dae does automatically from your existing site and documents. You keep the publish click.
